He studied metal working techniques in Tangier and Tetoian, Morocco. His metal sculpture was exhibited at the Galleria Salvador Riera, Bacelona, the Galleria Temple in Velencia and at the Llena Touta Gallery in Athens. His work was exhibited in Mexico City and Guadalajara.

He returned to the United States in 1981 opening his studio in St Petersburg, Florida, with gallery representation by galleries in Sarasota and Lake Worth. From 1990-1994 he provided set design construction for the Seventh Seal Theatre Company, New York, NY. Mr. Stern is a member of Artists Equity and the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Stern has adapted methods of handling steel into processes uniquely his own and developed a technique of inlaying brass into steel for ornamental and architectural work. He continues to experiment with new patinas and dyes. Iconography and Iconology are fundamental to all his representational pieces of sculpture. These works incorporate mythological motifs, Jungian archetypes, symbolic imaging and iconological metaphors to express many of his thoughts and beliefs.
