"Meditation" Watercolor, 21" x 29" "Broadmoor Sanctuary" Watercolor, 20" x 30" "Angels Trumpets" Watercolor, 20" x 28" Joan Pollard was born and raised in New York City where she attended High School and Queens College. A longtime resident of Newton, Massachusetts, she paints in her studio every day. Joan has had a lifelong interest in art. As a girl and a young woman, she developed many creative outlets, but her real goal was to become a painter. While in college, she enrolled in several painting, design and art appreciation courses. In the mid 1980's, with newfound determination, Joan sought out and studied with some of the finest artist/teachers including Carlton Plummer, Ted Minchin and Betty Lou Schlemm. She also took courses at local art schools including The Cambridge Center and The Kaji Aso Studio in Boston. In 1999, Joan left her career in government and now dedicates her time to creating art. Her favorite medium is Watercolor. The beauty of the luminous washes and glowing colors are additive, and the challenge of handling the often out-of-control qualities of watercolor continues to fascinate her. Joan recently added pastels to her repertoire, enjoying its rich lush texture and powerful, strong pigments. Her paintings have been exhibited widely in New England, have won numerous awards and are included in many private collections.
