Howard Dunn earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, PA in 1950. Later, when he became a high school staff photographer, his interest in photography began to blossom. While on assignment overseas as an Architect with the US State Department, he continued his photography. He participated in six shows between 1972 and 1980 in the Washington, DC area. In 1972, he presented a one-person studio-gallery show. In November of 1978, he participated in a juried show by The Butler Institute of American Art. In 1980 he participated in an invitational show at The Terrain Gallery, NY, NY. Highlights of his achievements include many awards by the Maryland Council of Camera Clubs, The Greater Washington Council of Camera Clubs, The Art League, Washington, DC; he received several prizes from The State Department Recreation Association; he was a summer photo contest winner of The Miami Herald, Florida and he has been recognized by Cape Cod Life Magazine. In Sept.1997, Dunn won first prize in the adult category for black & white photography in the Falmouth Enterprise Photography Competition. In 1998, he had a one person show at The King Center for Performing Arts, Melbourne, Florida. Mr. Dunn was a judge for The Falmouth Academy Annual Photography Show, March 1999. In November 2002, he had a solo show at the Mazer Gallery, Falmouth, MA.

After relocating to Falmouth, Massachusetts, his photographs were included in several prestigious exhibitions: The Cape Museum of Fine Arts, Dennis, Mass. featured his work in the "People of the World" exhibition in January 2002. Two of his photographs remain in the museum's permanent collection. The Falmouth Public Library has featured Dunn's photographs four times, most recently in 2001. The Cataumet Art Center, Cataumet, Mass. has hosted two joint exhibitions featuring Dunn's photography and oil paintings by his wife, Terry Dunn: "Here and There" 1998, and "Barns" 2005. In August 2004, Dunn had a solo exhibition at the Cataumet Arts Center entitled "Arizona Odyssey." The photographs of Howard Dunn possess the special quality of transporting the viewer right into the scene; he describes his photographs as "moody," concentrating on tonal quality and basic composition.
